One of the presentations I was most excited about seeing at London Fashion Week was Dion Lee’s, the future of this bright young Aussie seems certain of success. Lee is a graduate from the Sydney Institute of Technology and a winner of the L’Oreal Festival Design Award, it was his first season showing in London.
Dion Lees’s AW 12 collection, Sequence Breathing, was inspired by the movement and flow of air around the body. The garments were mesmerising as they glistened in the light, structures replicated the respiratory organs and geometric laser cut forms reflected the movement of the lungs. Sheer organza skirts uncongealed into boxy tailored jackets, soft liquid prints covered the surface of translucent fabrics. Light reflecting metallic fringing embossed onto garments became a centre piece of the show enthralling the flow of the respiratory system. Fine knit mesh jumpers toughened up the silhouettes of skeletal pencil skirts.
